PS. Mostly, all our people from all walks of life have heard about organ and
tissue donation; they just don’t enough to make an informed decision to say
YES.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The ULUNTU Project is an Organ Donation Foundation (ODF) initiative. The ODF’s goal
is to visit the millions of people who live in marginalised and vulnerable communities
and to educate them properly about organ and tissue donation, in order to drive
consent.
Although many people have heard about organ and tissue donation, it is a topic that
is often perceived as being contrary to certain customs, cultures and traditions, which
results in a fear-based understanding. The ULUNTU Project aims to turn these
perceptions around through community engagement using interactive, culturally
sensitive messaging delivered by culturally similar messengers.
With the help of the Tissue Partners and especially the Tshwane University of
Technology (Centre for Tissue Engineering), the ULUNTU Project will visit primary
health care clinics, secondary schools, tertiary institutions, medical centres,
community hospitals, churches, women and youth groups, community based
organisations and faith based organisations to engage on a personal level with the
community.
We will also be present at community events and will reach out to community
newspapers and radio stations to broadcast the message that organ and tissue
donation does indeed “AFFECT US ALL” AND THAT SUCH A SIMPLE DESCISION COULD
SAVE THOUSANDS OF LIVES.
The ULUNTU Project is not about lecturing, but rather engaging by asking questions
and sharing what we know. It is about story telling and connecting and reaching out
so that more lives can be saved.
YOUR PRESENCE AT THIS PRESS CONFERENCE IS ESSENTIAL
